ThefilmbeginswithJoshua(CubaGoodingJr.)andVincent(MiguelFerrer)drivingtoahospital.Bothofthemseemtobeshotandinpain.Joshuathinksbacktohischildhood,whenhisfatherwasshotinfrontofhiseyes.ThefilmthenflashesbackandshowsJoshuaandhispartner,Mickey(JohnnyMessner)visitingpeoplewhooweVincentmoney.TheyvisitacrazydruggiewhotellsthemthatasmalltimedrugdealernamedFrankieTahoewantstokillVincent.JoshuaandMickeytellVincent,andthetriogoestoaguywhoworksforFrankie.TheyintimidatehimintotellingthemwhereFrankieis,andtheyfindFrankieinaclub.AfteratalkwhereFrankieinsultsJoshua,callinghimVincentsquot;bitchquot;,andreligion,whichVincentholdsdeartohim,VincentkillsFrankiewithabaseballbat.Thetriodumpthebodyinalandfill.Whiledoingthis,VincentrevealsthatMickeyandhiswifehadbeenhavinganaffair,andVincentkillsMickey.JoshuaandVincentarehavingbreakfast,andJoshuatellshisbossthathewantsnomoreofit,andthathewantstoretire.Vincentisangeredandleaves.Vincentgetshome,butfindshehastwomenwatchinghishouse.Whileconfrontingthem,Joshuaappears.JoshuaandVincentaretoldtheyhavebeentargetedbyNino(HarveyKeitel),apowerfulcrimeboss.TheyvisitNino.AfterNinotauntsthem,Vincenttellshimthathewillnotbeintimidated,andNinowalksaway.Oncehome,Vincentfindshiswifemurdered.Angered,thetwodecidetogetrevenge.TheywaituntilnightandthengobacktoNinoshouse.FightingtheirwaythroughNinoshenchmen,VincentfindsNino,andthetwohaveastandoff,duringwhichVincentishitbyashotgunblast,butsurvives.Ninogetsshotanddies.Whileleaving,Ninoswifeappearsandbothfireateachother.NinoswifediesbutJoshuatakesahittothestomach.Itisthenrevealedthatthisistheopeningsequence.ItisalsorevealedthatthemanwhoactuallykilledJoshuasfatherwas,infact,Vincent.JoshuaputshisguntoVincentshead,leavingittotheviewertodecideifhekillshisboss.
